A summary for my mail in 2023!
This is the first year I really started developing my tracking spreadsheet, but it didn't even start going anywhere until right before World Postcard Day. I was anticipating having quite a few direct swaps (and did end up with lots) so I wanted to make sure I was organized with sending address & stamp proof, ensuring I had contact details to say thanks, all that fun stuff... and the spreadsheet really helped! Then I continued to develop it so I could track travel times to help with knowing whether a card was traveling longer than usual or was still within average times.
I still need to clean up the tracking spreadsheet a bit to make it easier to understand (and confirm it's calculating things correctly - sometimes the numbers don't quite make sense or change when I check at different times 😅) but the latest stats for my mail in 2023 are as follows:
- Of 185 tag/swap/RR postcards organized, I received 152 and 135 were acknowledged as received by the person I sent them to (not everyone sends thank-you notes and I don't personally follow-up). There have been quite a few cards traveling from 2023 that arrived early in 2024 but those count for 2024 stats anyways 😄
- An additional 28 official Postcrossing cards were received & registered by me, while 34 of the official cards I sent out were registered.
- I sent mail to 38 countries:
- I received mail from 41 countries:
- Fastest travel time was 5 days (within Canada)
- Longest travel time was 135 days (swapping with China)
- Average travel time was 22 days, while median was 18 days.
- The overall distribution of countries by number of cards sent/received looks like (the most with the USA at 77 - but many still with Germany):
